Announce: Spring 2009 (Entries after January 1 will be announced as they are received, reviewed and accepted.)
Theme is Voices of New Mexico
Essay submissions have to have some aspect of New Mexico, funny, history, biography, life in New Mexico, fiction, nonfiction.
Suggestions: What was it like growing up in New Mexico? Why are New Mexicans/Santa Feans/Albuquerqueans different? Why are aliens so Roswell? A New Mexico character in New Mexico history. Why do we like green/red chile? Why were the Native Americans and Hispanics so important to New Mexico? Do you have a favorite family cuento? Do you have to get up early to enjoy the Balloon Fiesta, Indian or Spanish Markets? What part of living in New Mexico hasn’t been done to death?
Essays may be any length up to 2,500 words
Poetry may be any length up to 1,500 words
Author must be a New Mexican (born here or lives here now). Pictures/illustrations are great but publisher reserves right to use. Essay and pictures must be free of copyright restrictions. Papers/illustrations/photos will not be returned. All papers can be submitted by email (MS Word attachments) or by snail mail - entries by snail mail must be on CD in MS Word format.
A panel of judges will make the final decisions on entries to be included in the anthology. Winners will be included in the new book and receive two free copies. They may buy additional copies at 45% off. Winners will be asked to signings. The New Mexico Book Co-op reserves the right to cancel the project if insufficient entries are received (if cancelled, all entry fees will be refunded).
$10 entry fee per submittal, payable to New Mexico Book Co-op. Multiple entries are encouraged with different essays; each entry has the $10 entry fee.
