Lavender in the Village Book Event - July 11-13
Last year the Lavender in the Village brought thousands of people to the Village of Los Ranchos (just north of Albuquerque). It was a two day event and because we did so well last year we are opening up the opportunities to other authors. This year there is selling/an event Friday night also. So it is bigger and better! The opportunity is available because we are Los Ranchos residents.
Books will be displayed in the "Barn" that is weather free except if there is extraordinarily bad weather. The opportunity is first-come. We are giving an opportunity to Village of Los Ranchos resident authors first and they must sign up before April 1, 2008. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A LOS RANCHOS RESIDENT TO PARTICIPATE!!!
SPACES FOR BOOK RESERVATIONS ARE LIMITED!!!!!
Provided will be a tax license, tax reporting, charge card capability, receipt books, bags, tables, chairs, signage, table cloths, set up, publicity, and coordination. Security is provided.
Rules are simple: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A LOS RANCHOS RESIDENT TO PARTICIPATE!!!
1. You pay $20 per title to display and sell your book. There is not room for papers or other stuff -- just books. There is a discount if you have more than one title.
2. You provide 10 copies of a title and your phone number in case your title sells well — we need to call you ASAP to bring more.
3. Books must be stickered with the price on the back. Remember someone will be selling your book and if they aren't stickered, we don't know the price! If your book has the price imprinted on the back cover DON'T COVER IT UP! Have the sticker next to it. WE HIGHLY ADVISE A MINIMAL DISCOUNT! There is an economy problem and if the sticker is next to the "real" price then customers think there is a deal! Books sell if they are discounted! Don't use permanent stickers -- some people like to remove them after the book is sold.
4. Books for sale must be brought before the show opens in a BOX, almost the same size as the books. Why a box? Because extra books will be stored under the tables and a box is easy for storage and you need to pick up your books LATE Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2008, in the box. We are not storing books. If you forget to bring your books we are not calling you to remind you. Not coming Sunday to pick up your books means they will be donated to schools/libraries. We will give authors more info/times as to drop off and pick up times when it gets a little closer. The Barn is located on Rio Grande.
5. SIGNING OPPORTUNITIES!!!!!! Saturday & Sunday. If you have a title in the Lavender in The Village we would love to have you sign for an hour. Times are first come. If you sign you must also be in the booth for another hour to help greet customers and take money. We suggest an hour before your signing or an hour after.
6. Books must be family friendly! Gardening, novels, kids, history, art, travel, cookbooks, and lavender books if you have it!
7. Voluntary but a good way to be seen -- there is an auction at the event and we are asking for a donation of a book. Books are displayed for the whole weekend and bid on.
8. Checks to each author will be mailed the week after the event. You keep 100% of what the book sells for EXCEPT if any of your books are sold by credit card then there is 3.5% taken out of that sale. Tax is charged on top of the sale and paid for by the Co-op. It is the law and they check -- that is why we have to have a license!
9. Authors will be given tips if they work/sign/attend like wear lavender!
